The Jesus and Mary Chain bring anniversary tour to Newcastle
Scottish alternative rock band The Jesus and Mary Chain will play Newcastle’s O2 Academy on February 18.
The tour symbolises the bands 30th anniversary of debut album Psychocandy. The album, which was released in 1985, is considered a landmark recording because of its blend of white noise and pop song structure that’s influenced bands in the shoe-gaze genre.
The popularity of a classic album tour has risen in recent years, with The Manic Street Preachers, Pink Floyd’s Roger Waters and The Who all giving fans the chance to experience old albums again.
Although this tour celebrates the bands bebut album, they have recently discussed plans to record a new album, which is a long time coming as their last release was in 1998.
Support band Eugulls have pulled out of the tour, which opens up gig slots for local artists.
