The Marriage of Figaro to come to Newcastle's Theatre Royal
One of Mozart’s most well-known and beloved operas, The Marriage of Figaro, is coming to Newcastle’s Theatre Royal next month (March 5).
The comedic opera, which is to be sung in English, follows the title character as he prepares for his wedding day.
On top of all the usual wedding woes, Figaro learns that his master, the Count, has a thing for Susanna, Figaro’s bride-to-be.
The Countess is understandably heartbroken at her husband’s infidelities and lack of loyalty, although unbeknown to her, she is the object of the page’s adolescent affections.
Figaro also finds himself in a spot of bother with the housekeeper, whom he borrowed money from on the promise that, if he could not repay the money, he would marry her.
Mozart’s music helps to enhance the play’s emotional highs and lows.
