Contemporary artist Tony Swain brings his new work to the Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art in Gateshead from today (March 7).

Rather than using a canvas, the Northern Irish artist uses sections of newspapers put together as a background for his paintings of fragmented landscapes and abstract patterns.

Using acrylic paints, he puts his work on paper directly onto the gallery walls, highlighting the everyday and temporary feel of newsprint.

After completing his BA at The Glasgow School of Art, Tony has so far had over 30 exhibitions, including ten solo ones, around the United Kingdom, Europe and the US.

Not to be missed, this is his first exhibition in the North East and will be on display for several months until the summer.

Tony Swain’s Undetailed Progress exhibition opens at the BALTIC on March 7 and runs to July 12.
