Members of the Calamity Jane cast are swapping their horses for bikes as they plan to cycle 250 miles in just 24 hours to raise money for charity on March 22.

The fundraising mission is being led by ex-Emmerdale star and the show’s Wild Bill Hickock, Tom Lister.

Tom is a keen advocate for Hope For Justice which aims to help the victims of human trafficking in the UK.

During a chat after the opening night at Sunderland’s Empire Theatre, he explained: “We’re going from London to Manchester in 24 hours which is ridiculous. It’ll hurt like hell but it’s nothing compared to what the people who are suffering in the hands of the traffickers in this country are going through.”

Cast members are also offering the chance for audiences to meet them and get photos and autographs at the end of the shows while they collect money and raise awareness of the charity and their challenge.

The charitable cyclists have been training at least three times a week alongside the gruelling practice sessions and daily performances.

“We’re just doing our bit to put ourselves through the mill a little bit and raise as much money as we can”, said leading man Tom.

“Hope For Justice’s aim is to see the end of human trafficking in our lifetime. I think they’re an incredible cause and an incredible charity and I’m just thrilled to be part of it.”

You can donate to the cause on their JustGiving page.
