The Thrill of Love

The story of Ruth Ellis, the last woman to be hanged in Britain, comes to Sunderland’s Royalty Theatre next week (March 23-28).

Amanda Whittington’s play, The Thrill Of Love, looks at the real woman behind the headlines and the events that led her to murder her unfaithful lover.

Set in 1950s London, the play follows Ruth Ellis, a divorcee juggling life with a young child, a job in a nightclub that offers more than just a gin and tonic (if you know what we mean), and a new romance with wealthy racing driver David, who is known for his womanising ways.

Ruth Ellis is a girl willing to do anything to gain access to the movie-star lifestyle she’s always dreamed of.

And fame does come – but not in the way she imagines.

The Thrill Of Love, directed by John Appleton, will be at The Royalty Theatre, Chester Road on 23 – 28 March. Tickets are £8 or £6.50 for concessions.
