The Stars of the Commitments

The stars of classic 90s film The Commitments are appearing at The Point, Sunderland tonight (April 10).

The 1991 Oscar nominated film won multiple BAFTAs and has an acclaimed multi-million selling soundtrack.

The movie focused on Dubliner Jimmy Rabitte’s attempt to form the world’s best soul group and, over two decades later, the popularity of the film ensures that fans will still flock to see The Commitments.

The two-hour performance showcases soul classic songs that appeared in the movie such as Midnight Hour, Mustang Sally and Try a Little Tenderness.

The line-up’s original cast members include guitarist Kenneth McCluskey (Derek “The Meat Man” Scully), drummer Dick Massey (Billy “The Animal” Mooney).

The band has played more than 1000 shows and has been invited to perform with soul legends such as BB King, Wilson Pickett and the late James Brown.

Doors open at 7.30pm with the band scheduled to take stage at 9pm.
