The producers has arrived at the Sunderland Empire Theatre, in a one week limited run.

The musical comedy, based on the 1968 Mel Brooks film of the same name, sees New York producer Max Bialystock left without a penny to his name after a string of plays he backed flop. Recruiting the shy accountant Leo Bloom, the two plot to pull of Broadway’s biggest scam.

They plan to produce the worst show that Broadway has ever seen, pulling in big name investors then running away to Rio with the leftover millions they didn’t invest.

But of course plans go awry and things don’t turn out quite how the duo had hoped.

The show stars Jason Manford as Leo Bloom, with Phill Jupitus playing Frank Liebkind on the Monday to Thursday performances, and Ross Nobel filling the role on Friday and Saturday. Also starring Cory English as Max Bialystock.

The hit show has won a record-breaking 12 Tony Awards as well as three Olivier Awards. Produced by the same company that brought sell out hits Dance ‘Til Dawn, the show is packed with classy costumes, mesmerising dancing and side-splitting songs – such as the classic Springtime for Hitler.

Tickets still available for this glittering show here.
