Controversy had risen amongst Halo fans as one of the recent TV spot for Halo 5: Guardians showcased the supposed death of the Master Chief, but now the latest trailer implies that he is not in fact KIA but instead being hunted by Locke and his team.

Just after being reunited with his old Spartan team, Chief has been declared KIA on the colony of Meridian which has caused a lot of concern about Halo 5’s campaign as Agent Locke and the newly formed team Osiris are to be tasked with hunting the rogue Blue team during the course of Halo 5’s campaign.

If Chief is declared KIA during the course of the campaign, this could cause a lot of damage to both the franchise and Halo 5’s story as a whole especially since many fans are still recovering from the loss Spartan team Black and the apparent ambush of Spartan team Red, plus the Chief being unable to find closure over the loss of Cortana.

To bring you up to date with the Halo universe, during the raid on UNSC Argent Moon Chief was separated from blue team where he was then contacted by a Forerunner entity known as the Domain. It took the form of Cortana to inform him “The Domain is open, Meridian is next. You have three days”. This revelation has a correlation to the recent forerunner attacks on human colonies and now Chief is looking for Guardian structures to try and stop these attacks, one other link to the Guardians and the Domain is a Forerunner A.I called the Warden Eternal.

In addition to the numerous attacks, Fire team Osiris lead by Spartan Jameson Locke has been tasked with hunting down the rouge Blue team. Their objective is to find the rouge spartans and bring them back to the UNSC, although during a battle on the Sangheli city of Sunaion, the team encountered the Warden Eternal. Eventually Locke alone was confronted by Blue team where the Chief then proceeded to headbutt the spartan, possibly having cracked his visor the Chief has showcased that his unwilling to follow orders from Locke.
From what we know of the campaign, Osiris will be chasing Blue team for the first half of the game, but the rest of the story is unknown thus far.

We will find out if Master Chief meets his maker when the game is released at the end of the month on the 27th October.
