Albums to gift and play this festive season.
2015 has been a great year for music. Many artists and bands have released albums and singles which have topped the charts all over the world.
1. “25” – Adele.
Adele released her single “Hello” in October and it has been the most talked about song this autumn/winter. She went on to release her new album, “25” last month and it has peaked at number one in over 103 countries! She’s broken the record of having the best selling album in the UK this year.
2. “Purpose” – Justin Bieber.
Justins back on the music scene since he released his joint song “Where Are U Now” with Jack U in March. He teased the world about his single “What do you mean” in July for his latest album “Purpose”. This album has charted at no. 1 in 99 countries around the globe and it’s fair to say that he’s earned his position on the charts after taking a long break to produce this album.
3. “Made in the A.M.” – One Direction.
1D are known for number one hits. This year, their album had become the fastest seller of 2015 in the UK as it sold over 93,100 in the first week. It generated a total sales of over 422,100 (pure album). This is their first album without ex-member Zayn Malik and the boys are doing pretty great – no surprise there.
4. “If you’re reading this, it’s too late” – Drake.
‘I know when that hotline bling’, Drake sang to himself as his record label called to congratulate him on his album becoming Platinum. But seriously, this album became the first million-selling album of 2015 and debuted as no. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart. With memes made, dance moves busted and millions of pounds earned, Drake has outdone himself this year, specifically.
5. “Beauty behind the madness” – The Weeknd.
The Weeknd had always been the underdog. But, 2015 has definitely been his year. Upon releasing “Earned it” on the 50 Shades soundtrack, and “I can’t feel my face”. He dropped his latest album: “Beauty behind the madness”, which charted the “UK top 40 RnB albums” chart.
6. “Skrillex and Diplo present Jack U” – Jack U.
DJs Skrillex and Diplo have joined forced and become Jack U. They released the song that was most danced to this year, with Justin Bieber titled: “Where Are U Now” which features on their latest album “Skrillex and Diplo present Jack U”. The song won best collaboration of 2015 recently at the AMAs (American Music Awards) and it’s right to say that every time it plays, everyone is on their feet – whether or not you like Bieber! The song has charted no.1 on Billboard’s dance charts and as the beat drops twice, it’s easy to see why.
7. “Caracal” – Disclosure.
This duo have collaborated with artists like Sam Smith and Lorde to bring you “Caracal”. Their single, “Omen” with Sam Smith has debuted no.7 on the “Hot Dance/Electronic songs” chart and has marked this their first no.1 album! If you need music to get the atmosphere going, this album is a great sound to fill the room with.
8. “Sounds good feels good” – 5 Seconds of Summer.
5SOS have showed us the true colours through this album and the direction they want to take their music in. Following from their pop album: “5 Seconds of Summer” released in 2014, “Sounds good feels good” is a new direction of ‘the broken scene’ released in October 2015. It’s earned them their second no.1 album in over 35 countries. The boys have all co-written the songs in the new album and express their experiences, thoughts and feelings with the world but still keeping the pop-rock vibe that their audience admires. All round good present for a fellow teenage friend.
9. “Christmas” – Michael Buble.
It’s that time the of year when Michael Buble comes out of hibernation and puts us in the festive mood with his christmas songs. “Christmas” is the album released in 2011 and has revisited the charts again in the official “UK top 40 Albums” chart at #33. Not doing too bad as everyone plays Michael’s songs on Christmas eve and Christmas day. You can’t deny that Christmas isn’t the same without Michael Buble playing from your home speakers system!
10. “Merry Christmas” – Mariah Carey.
Although this album was released in 1994, it’s secretly your guilty pleasure! “Merry Christmas” features songs like “All I want for Christmas” – the classic of all Christmas songs – which everybody undoubtedly sings along to. Is it really even Christmas if you’re not blasting Mariah Carey? The perfect gift for your family this December to get them in the mood for the 25th! Great to dance-a-long to this season.
