The excitement for festival season is starting to build as some of the biggest festivals across the world start to announce their first batch of acts. This morning Bestival played their hand and announced the first set of artists set to play at Isle Of Wight in September. The calibre of artists announced makes Bestival early contenders for line-up of the summer and we’ve picked out some of our favourites.
One of the big Bestival surprises is the announcement of The Cure as headliners. With 13 studio albums to their name and a career spanning 40 years, The Cure have enough quality material to headline every night of the festival. Five years ago they played at Bestival, and needed to be dragged off after playing a three-hour long greatest hits set which shows the calibre of this legendary band. We’d completely expect something similar this time around making for one of the must see headline performances of the summer.
Wolf Alice have had an incredible journey over the last 12 months and are still continuing to receive more and more recognition as one of the best new bands around. Their debut album My Love Is Cool, released on a independent label, reached an incredible number 2 in the UK album chart. As well as this, Wolf Alice have a live show to match the success of the album, as Ellie’s growth in confidence means she owns the stage.
Lean On was arguably one of the best songs of 2015 as Diplo continued his year of world domination. Major Lazer have worked their way up through the stages and now have the opportunity to prove themselves on the main stage. With the latest album Peace Is The Mission featuring so many collaborations, it’ll be interesting to see if Major Lazer are joined by any guests. Either way, Major Lazer will play host to the party of the weekend.
The greatest thing about festivals is discovering new artists. One of the most notable new artists on the Bestival Line-up so far is AURORA. The 19 year old Norwegian singer first came to into the spotlight at the end of last year with her Half The World cover for a particularly popular Christmas advert. She followed it up more recently with Conqueror all leading up to the release of the debut album which will be released in March leaving plenty of time for the Bestival crowd to fall in love with her and memorize every word.
