Gabrielle Aplin returns to Newcastle 02 Academy
Gabrielle Aplin returned to the North East as part of her tour for her second album “Light Up The Dark”.
The folk singer-songwriter, from Wiltshire, blew the Newcastle 02 audience away with her amazing vocals on the evening of February 4.
The 23-year-old was extremely humble in between songs and grateful for the positive reactions she received from the Newcastle crowd.
Along with hits of both of her albums, such as Panic Cord and Light Up The Dark, fans were treated to Gabrielle’s own rendition of David Bowie’s Space Oddity, dedicating it to the singer who died in January.
One fan had called out during a rendition of a song, Please Don’t Say You Love Me, taken from her first album, which left her in laughter during the song and most of the crowd seemed to join in.
Support acts included, Hannah Grace, a singer with impressive, stand out vocals from South Wales, Soham De, who preformed his own songs including his version of Ed Sheehan’s “You Need Me, I Don’t Need You” which both shocked and amazed the crowd and Lewis Watson, who stepped in as a last minute support act.
Gabrielle Aplin ended her main set by singing the upbeat song, Sweet Nothing, from her second album which was a big hit with the audience. She returned for an encore, thanking fans for her most favourite night of the tour so far and ended with Home, which left everyone leaving the 02 feeling up-lifted.
It was great to see a singer-songwriter who was as good live as they are on a CD or on the radio. It is a rare quality to have but Gabrielle wowed people with her mesmerising voice and there was little need for gimmicks.
Despite the 02 being far from packed, the atmosphere was still electric and fans were singing along to songs as though they were in a large arena. It shocks me how this talented singer-songwriter has not yet hit bigger heights. It was by far the most relaxing, yet uplifting gig I have been to, and I would recommend people try and get out to see Gabrielle Aplin live.
Light Up The Dark is available to listen to now on Spotify.
