Launch Day: Alexander Millar’s paintings come to life at Dance City

10th February 2016 Off By Gemma Hirst

Best known for his work the ‘Gadgies’, Alexander Millar has based his artwork around the North East working class community and memories from living in Tynedale.

Using images from his paintings, the contemporary theatre dance choreographer Kristin Kelly Abbott uses her artwork to create the dance performance of Launch Day to tell a story of what life was like in and out of the shipyards.

This will be Abbott’s first full-length dance performance at Dance City.

Launch Day will also project Millar’s paintings and show energetic movements to highlight the industrial history of the North East.

It is a new co-commission by Dance City and Queen’s Hall Hexham, supported by Arts Council England.

Launch Day is at Dance City on March 5, 7.30pm.

Tickets are priced from £12.50 and can be bought from the Ticket Office on 0191 261 0505 or online https://www.dancecity.co.uk/booking/?event_id=45295
