This week’s episode of Legends of Tomorrow involved death, return of familiar faces and a merry gathering of terrorists.

WARNING SPOILERS

The main plot involved our rag tag group of time travellers heading to an arms bazaar to stop Vandal Savage (Casper Crump) from getting his immortal hands on a nuclear warhead.

Gaining access to the bazaar following a rather fun scene involving Professor Stein (Victor Garber) pretending to be a terrorist, the group stop Savage from obtaining the warhead by buying it themselves, which starts let’s call it a ruckus with the terrorists, which includes Damien Darhk (Neal McDonough).

The team escapes but Atom (Brandon Routh) leaves part of his suit behind which is incredibly careless and dangerous as Rip Hunter (Arthur Darvill) points out, as in doing this he has created a worse future.

Taking this on board the team split into two groups one that consist of Stein, Sara Lance (Caity Lotz) and Jax (Franz Drameh) who head off to find Steins weed smoking younger self who luckily is developing a device in which they can find the missing piece of The Atom’s suit, while the second group consists of Heatwave (Dominic Purcell), Captain Cold (Wentworth Miller) and Atom who head off to find the dagger that is able to kill Savage.

Heatwave, Cold and Atom eventually find the dagger at a mansion of a collector who turns out is none other than Vandal Savage, who set a trap for our heroes. With group two trapped by Savage, Hunter gathers the others and heads of to face him resulting in a confrontation between our Hawk couple and Savage resulting in Hawkman (Falk Hentschel) being killed and Hawkgirl (Ciara Renée) badly injured. The group after saving Hawkgirl escape with their tails between their legs and a team member down.

This episode involved a lot fun bits particular involving Stein, but mainly his younger self and the interactions with the team added a lot of the comedy of this episode.

The main highlight of this episode was as I feel like will be for the series is the team dynamics as I said in my episode one review this show is unique compared to its sister shows Arrow and Flash as its able to put these oddball (for want of a better word) characters and let them interact often creating fun dynamics such as Cold and Atom’s weird bromance or Sara flirtation with Stein allow granted it was his younger self but still.

Now, one main issue with this episode I had was Hawkman’s death while shocking, to me felt telegraphed as he to me anyway survived not much of a purpose on the show other than to tell Hawkgirl that their meant to be together. I also found it strange no one brought up that Hawkman can reincarnate and acted if he was never going to comeback, as they all should know that’s one of his powers but that was just a minor issue for me.

Somethings I noticed are:

  • The ramification from them messing with time were interesting and nice way to show that one minor thing they do could change everything such as when Stein was no longer married to his wife felt real.
  • When the team go on their missions what does Rip Hunter do on the ship? Does he knit?
  • Also while I’m not a nuclear bomb expert, I don’t think they have giant gameshow countdowns.

Overall episode was fun with great interaction, interesting subplots and made Savage more of a threat even if it did come from a slightly lack luster, but gives the team more of a reason as a whole to stop Savage and to move the story on to a more interesting path, which continues to make want to see what happens next.
