T2 Trainspotting: First full trailer arrives at platform

3rd November 2016 Off By Paul Barclay

A trailer for the new Danny Boyle, T2 Trainspotting, hit the internet today.

The sequel to Trainspotting, a movie that practically defined the 90’s, has been demanded for years but only in January 2017 will we get to see what happened next. For over 20 years, we have wanted to know what happened next to Renton, Spud, Sick Boy and Begbie. At least on film. The book sequel, Porno, was released back in 2002.

With this in mind, there have been plenty of rumours as to why it has taken so long for this sequel to be made. The  first of these is that star of the first movie Ewan McGregor and director Danny Boyle fell out over McGregor not getting the starring role in 2000 film The Beach. The other theory is that neither Boyle, nor the writer John Hodge consider Porno to be a very good book and would only return to these characters if the idea was good enough.

Judging from this trailer, they have one. The familiarity of the cast, including McGregor, Ewan Bremner, Jonny Lee Miller and Robert Carlyle pulls you in instantly and reminds you of all that was good with the original 1996 classic. The music, the editing and the tone looks like Trainspotting. The most important thing is whether this sequel can feel as vital as the first part. That remains to be seen, but based on this evidence, it will.
