Seussical the Musical comes to the Customs House in South Shields
21st February 2017The magical stories of Dr. Seuss are coming to life in the University of Sunderland’s Seussical the Musical at the Customs House in South Shields this March.
The show features some of Seuss’s most recognisable characters, such as The Cat in the Hat and The Grinch, plucked straight from the pages of his most famous tales.
The thrilling musical loosely follows the storyline of well-known children’s book (and later the fantastical animated film), Horton Hears a Who. Horton the elephant finds his compassionate nature being tested when his efforts to save the microscopic town of Whoville results in the entire town believing he is insane.
Horton will not be the only one of Seuss’s characters to feature in the show, with names such as: Yertle the Turtle, Gertrude Mcfuzz, Mayzie la Bird, Vlad Vladikoff, and the Sour Kangaroo adding their very own twist to the story. The Cat in the Hat, will be acting as the musicals eccentric narrator to guide the audience through the wonderful world of imagination.
Reece Sohdi, who will be playing Horton, said: “It’s a feel good musical and the songs range from upbeat, toe-tapping numbers to emotional pieces that convey messages of loss and love.
“One of the show’s main lines is that ‘a person’s a person no matter how small’, and this teaches that you’ve got to be the change that you want to see in the world.”
The show will be running for an evening performance on March 1 and 2 at 7.30pm and an additional matinee performance at 1.30pm on March 2.
