Pure Comedy by Father John Misty – Preview

23rd March 2017 Off By Alexander Beard

April 7 will see the release of Father John Misty’s new album Pure Comedy. Misty (real name Joshua Tillman) initially found fame as the drummer for folk rock band Fleet Foxes, but he’s truly emerged as a generational talent under his current moniker.

Possessing a voice as impressive as his facial hair – he’s ditched his wild beard for a slender moustache – Misty’s third album, after 2012’s Fear Fun and 2015’s immaculate I Love You, Honeybear (all released via infamous record label Sub Pop) is already garnering serious mainstream attention.

He appeared on Saturday Night Live earlier this month, showcasing album tracks Total Entertainment Forever and Pure Comedy and if those songs are anything to go by then his upcoming effort will be every bit as enjoyable as its predecessor.

Misty’s brand of folk romanticism may not be for everyone, but it’ll be hard to escape in the coming months.
