The results are in, and the winner of the North East’s favourite romantic film 2014 is… The Notebook.

The Tyneside Cinema asked the public what their favourite romantic film of all time was, and the screen adaptation of Nicholas Sparks’ epic love story came out on top, beating out Brief Encounter (1945), last year’s winner Amelie (2001), and We Bought A Zoo (2011).

This is the sixth year that the Tyneside Cinema has run it’s Valentines Day film special.

The Notebook, starring Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams, is the tale of how an ageing man reads aloud to an invalid woman about two lovers separated by World War II and then passionately reunited, and will be shown at the Tyneside Cinema this Valentine’s day.

Accompanying the film will be complimentary chocolate from Hotel Chocolat, and a number of Valentine’s Day themed cocktails can be purchased at the bar.

Oscar nominated Her starring Joaquin Phoenix and Only Lovers Left Alive starring Tilda Swinton and Tom Hiddleston are also screening on the evening as an added treat to Valentine’s cinema goers.

The Tyneside Cinema’s special Valentine’s Day screening take place on Friday 14th February. Tickets £8.80
