The Invisible Woman

Released this week, The Invisible Woman explores the secret affair between Charles Dickens and his mistress. Nelly (Like Crazy star Felicity Jones) is a happily married school teacher and mother who takes us back to her illicit affair with Charles Dickens (Oscar nominated Ralph Fiennes).

Nelly comes from a family of actors, and because Dickens was an amateur actor, he feels a connection with Nelly which eventually develops into an affair. But secrecy has a price, and so does being the mistress of a highly esteemed author.

Following on from his directorial debut with 2011’s Coriolanus, Ralph Fiennes adapts the book by Claire Tomalin which explores doomed love and the man behind the works of literary classics such as Great Expectations and Oliver Twist.

The film has been acclaimed for its attention to detail and its amazing costume design (which has been Oscar nominated). Get ready to immerse yourself in the world of Dickens and his muse, Nelly.

The Invisible Woman opens at the Tyneside Cinema on Friday 21st February
