The Northern Gallery for Contemporary Art’s latest exhibition opens today (January 30), focusing around the themes of taste, the beauty of art, and whether art can be seen as unreasonable.

Featuring a group of 14 artists from around the world such as Keith Arnatt, Claire Barclay and Paul Becker, the collections bring new work alongside older pieces to Sunderland until May.

CommonRoom, a design agency from London, have been invited to join the exhibition and design wallpaper to accompany the work on show, alongside critical thinking pieces from Yelena Popova.

This exhibition also features an off-site show at the University of Sunderland’s Priestman Gallery, with work by Fay Nicolson, Jackson Sprague, Kate Liston, Michael Fischer and CommonRoom on display.

All exhibitions are free to attend. The Decorator and The Thief runs from 30 January until 16 May 2015 in the main gallery of NGCA, above the city library.
