American folk duo Hiss Golden Messenger are to play Sunderland’s INDEPENDENT this Saturday (February 7), as they tour the UK to promote their new EP, Southern Grammar.

The two experienced a successful year as they released their fifth studio album, Lateness Of Dancers, supported Ben Howard and performed on The Late Show with David Letterman as their profile continues to rise.

Described as being “haunting” and “heavenly”, HGM manage to successfully blend a rustic bluegrass folk style of music with a hint of gospel, while songwriter MC Taylor shines a light on the roots of the American music movement.

This may be the last time indie fans will get to see the duo in a venue of this size as the act’s popularity begins to rise – their UK tour kicks off a campaign that will take them across most of Europe.

Hiss Golden Messenger play INDEPENDENT on Saturday February 7. Tickets £10.
