The rock pilgrimage to Donington Park has rolled around for another year and Download Festival is only a couple of days away. With a stellar year last year and the unfortunate disappearance of Sonisphere means Download is the UK’s premier rock festival and they knew they had to do something good. The 3 main headliners couldn’t be much bigger if they tried. On the Friday there is Slipknot. After just finishing UK tour, that they smashed it seems appropriate to see they guys on the main stage on the Friday. Then on the Saturday there is the biggest arena rock band in the world, with a UK exclusive, Muse. Just a week after releasing their 7th album I can’t see a better time for them to play. Hopefully being at Download will encourage them to play some of their older heavier stuff as well as the newer album tracks. Then on the Sunday its KISS. They last performed the festival in 2008 and Gene Simmons has said they are planning to take no prisoners when they close the weekend. But the festival doesn’t revolve around the top three. Headlining the other stage are Black Stone Cherry, Marilyn Manson and Enter Shikari. All three are massive names in rock and I’m excited to see what they do. Especially Black Stone Cherry who might be an interesting watch if you’re not a fan of Slipknot. But it’s not just the bands on late at night who are going to put on a good show. Rise Against, Billy Idol and Slash are all playing the main stage. Faith No More are on before Muse that looks like a booking made in heaven and on before Kiss, is Motley Crue for a truly old school rock out. Casting your eyes further down the poster still brings surprises and must sees of the weekend I’m slightly disappointed with the lack of punk music over the weekend. I thought with Sonisphere not being on they would pick up a couple of acts but if you do like jumping in a field to punk music, Yellowcard, Three Days Grace and The Struts are playing. Which will be a nice breakup from the heavy stuff.  A couple of names that really caught my eye were The Qemists, Modestep and Rene La Vice. These guys are pretty big in the world of dance. Especially Rene LaVice who is a huge name in D‘n’b. It will be interesting to see what sort of crowd he can pull but I’m excited and I hope he gets a good reaction. So with a couple of days to go the tent is being packed the weather is being checked and hopefully Download 2015 is going to be a stand out year.
