A series of activities will be happening in libraries across Sunderland tomorrow  (February 4) to celebrate Harry Potter Night.

Bunny Hill Library and Washington Town Centre Library are both hosting witch and wizard lessons for classes from primary schools.

Budding Harrys and Hermiones will also get the chance to learn the Yule Ball Dance, create their own spell and try on the sorting hat as well as listening to stories from The Deathly Hallows.

Libraries in the East, West and Coalfields areas have also arranged class visits with spell writing sessions, story telling and the chance for pupils to craft their own stained glass Hedwig owl.

Houghton Library is running a Harry Potter Book Night event between 5 pm and 6.30pm for any young people over the age of 10.

Councillor John Kelly, Portfolio Holder for Public Health, Wellness and Culture, said: “The Harry Potter books have brought a lot of pleasure to children and adults alike over the years.

“And anything that gets children and young people reading and talking about books has to be a good thing so I’m very happy that we’ve been able to support activities in libraries across the city.”

This comes after the death of Alan Rickman, famously known for his role as Professor Snape in the films, on January 14.
