Flavours and Fables in Sunderland has closed its doors after only being open for a few months.

The social enterprise café based on St Thomas Street did have a crowd funding project running to help them with providing for the community, but they had to remove it.

Susan Ross, the manager of the café, said: “Unfortunately, we have had to pull out of the crowd funding and, sadly, we will be closing our doors in the next week or so.

“We are just sorry that this is the situation we are in.”

There were a lot of contributing factors that led to the café’s closure.

Ms Ross added: “In short, a combination of too high overheads and not enough footfall [have resulted in the closure].

“We have tried to stay positive and do what we can for a while now, but unfortunately the situation has just worsened.”
