Top 5 galleries in North East to take him or her to on Valentine’s

This Valentine’s Day, why not go along to a gallery? We have made a list of top 5 galleries in the North East to take your Valentine to on Valentine’s Day.

  1. Laing Art Gallery – Newcastle

Where: New Bridge Street, Newcastle upon Tyne NE1 8AG – www.twmuseums.org.uk/laing-art-gallery.html.

Situated on Newgate Street, in Newcastle Upon Tyne, lies the Laing Art Gallery. There’s exhibitions on at the moment to suit avid art enthusiasts and beginners. The gallery also encompasses different types of art – from photography to sculptures.

A Leonardo Di Vinci exhibition is currently at the gallery, which certainly isn’t to be missed!

2. BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art – Gateshead

Just over the Tyne Bridge stands the BALTIC with four levels of contemporary art. There are some interesting pieces of art at the centre at the moment. There’s a story of size, distance and sincerity and an exhibition looking at the links between art and architecture.

If that doesn’t make you want to go, you can always sit in the café afterwards or visit the gift shop – everyone loves gifts!

3. The Bowes Museum – Barnard Castle in County Durham

If you want to travel a bit further afield then why not head to the Bowes Museum. You may or may not have heard about this museum, but it’s becoming increasingly popular for its fashion exhibitions.

Currently there are exhibitions looking at photography and quilting. It’s a grand museum with even grander exhibitions!

4. The National Glass Centre – Sunderland

If you want to head near to the River Wear and if glasswork is one of your artistic interests, then the National Glass Centre is a great option!

You can take a look at the exhibitions or you can watch glass being made. You may even get to have a go!

5. Northern Print – Newcastle
