Downton Abbey visit Beamish to film final episode shown on Christmas

TV drama Downton Abbey visited Beamish to film scenes for its final episode which was seen on Christmas day.
Some scenes were filmed in the town area of the popular North East tourist attraction.
Beamish’s Town street was covered in “snow” in July, when filming took place with Lady Mary Crawley (played by Michelle Dockery), Tom Branson (Allen Leech) and Henry Talbot (Matthew Goode).
The museum welcomed over 100 cast, crew and supporting artists.
Visitors were able to watch the filming.
Jacki Winstanley, Beamish’s Marketing Officer, said: “It was fantastic to have a scene from the very last episode of Downton Abbey filmed at Beamish.
“In the middle of July they transformed our town street into a snowy winter scene. Our staff and visitors were fascinated by the preparations and actual filming on the day.”
The show did bring success with 6.6 million viewers watching the show live on Christmas Day. A further 3.9 million people watched the show via catchup.
Beamish also recently welcomed Downton Abbey actress Joanne Froggatt, who plays maid Anna Bates, for the filming of a new ITV drama, Dark Angel, about the North East 1800s serial killer Mary Ann Cotton.
Downton Abbey is the highest rating UK drama of the past decade, with an average of nearly 11 million viewers over the course of all six series, including Christmas specials.
The show, which was first screened in 2010, has become a global phenomenon, winning Golden Globe, Emmy, BAFTA, National Television and Screen Actors Guild awards.
