What’s on this Christmas
23rd December 2016
- Our favourite detective and high functioning sociopath, Sherlock, is back in business with not one but three feature length episodes. With Moriarty now dead the stage is open on BBC1 for the new baddie who the team has described as ‘the darkest villain we’ve ever written’.
- This year, Mrs Brown’s Boys is on BBC1 for more hilarious antics. What could possibly go wrong through with grandpa’s new stair lift and a prescription for medical marijuana? Let’s not forget the Christmas spirit either as Agnes comes on all Scrooge-like.
- Northern Lights have decided we are going on a Bear Hunt and we’re not scared! From the creators of the Snow Man comes the adaptation of Michael Rosen’s classic children’s book illustrated by Helen Oxenburg. Rosen himself will be playing the bear appearing on Channel 4 this Christmas.
- Grab your cupcakes and let’s go down to BBC1 for the Great British Bake Off. Don’t forget your handkerchiefs though as this will be the last Bake Off on the BBC but at least there are two shows. Christmas cheer abounds with “Merry”/Mary Berry but it’s business as usual for Paul “scrooge” Hollywood as they welcome back four bakers from past series.
- Call the Midwife and don’t panic! This year it’s an SOS call from the Hope clinic in South Africa where they are so understaffed they face closure with being underfunded. It may seem hopeless but the nuns and nurses go there to save it anyway on BBC1.
- The Last Dragon Slayer. Sky1 is making it’s way into living rooms this Christmas with fire breathing monsters. Set in a new dystopia the mundane TV and supermarkets co-exists with magical wizards and quark beasts. Adapted from the books by Jasper Fforde is a feature-length adventure to enjoy.
- Doctor Who on BBC1 joins forces with a comic book superhero to save New York from a deadly extra terrestrial threat. However Peter Capaldi’s Time Lord may be in for a bit of a shock as his new friend may not be that entirely super or much of a hero.
- Witness for Prosecution. Agatha Christie is back in 1920’s London where glamorous and rich Emily French, played by Kim Cattrall, is apparently murdered for her fortune. But who did it?
- Strictly Come Dancing. Past contestants return to trip the light fantastic as we say a final goodbye to Len Goodman this year as he bows out of Strictly for ever. Denise Lewis, Frankie Bridge, Pam Stephenson, Ainsley Harriott, Gethin Jones and Melvin Odoom take the floor this Christmas time.
- Outnumbered. And you thought you had problems. It’s been three years since we last saw the Brockman family and they have grown in size and trouble. The family need to pull together at BBC1 Boxing Day to help granddad during which they encounter car problems, child problems, parent problems, emotional problems as well as the Second World War.
We hope you enjoy the festivities!
