Review: Fozzy – Judas11th May 2017
For 18 years now Fozzy have been developing their heavy metal and rock sound, from starting as mostly a cover band to releasing their soon to be seventh studio album. Beginning in Atlanta, Georgia back in 1999, the band has seen a steady rise since its first self-titled debut album sold only 4,225 copies and lead to a European realease being cancelled. Their big breakthrough came in 2005 on the release of their third album, All that Remains, which sold more than 100,000 copies and received critical success. Fast forward to 2014 and the release of Fozzy’s sixth studio album, Do You Wanna Start a War, which saw the band’s best-selling first week ever. It may have taken a few albums for Fozzy to get noticed but they have done nothing but improve and find their own voice. This year they are returning the Download festival for the fourth time as one of the lead acts on the final day.
Judas is the first single from Fozzy’s upcoming album to be released and is the focus of their current tour, Judas Uprising. Lead singer Chris Jericho has joined back up with the band after finishing up his most recent stint as a WWE Superstar. His vocals are strong throughout the song ranging from a powerful whispered piece at the start to a harsher tone in the chorus where the charismatic front man really gets into it. Jericho’s voice and the dark lyrics are a match made in heaven and the music video itself offers you up something just as dark and enticing. Speaking to Loudwire Jericho said, “For such a dark and sexy song like ‘Judas’, we wanted a dark and sexy video to match. We got that and more! In one take we filmed a unique, visually stunning masterpiece that combines an incredible song, psycho clowns, hot chicks, a man on fire and a great rock ‘n’ roll band, all in one tasty video morsel.”
Judas has a dangerously catchy beat and manages to sound unique while still maintaining the typical Fozzy heavy metal sound. In just six days the music video managed 775K views on YouTube and has helped kick start the now under way Judas Uprising Tour.
