Review: Triple 9

26th February 2016 Off By Daniela Ralu Nastase

Director and producer John Hillcoat returns after Lawless in 2012 with another crime movie.

The star cast such as Norman Reedus, Casey Affleck, Kate Winslet, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Anthony Mackie and Woody Harrelson (to name a few) have offered great performances and along with the strong plot, they succeed to keep the audience on their toes.

The plot is explosive, starting in the middle of a bank robbery with bullets flying everywhere. Later we find out that the robbers are four police men blackmailed by the Russian mafia. A hilarious moment happens after they leave the bank and trying to run from police officers (their colleagues), the stolen object explode red powder making their safe and sound escape difficult.

Not satisfied by their half-robbery, Irina – the wife of the Russian mafia chief (Kate Winslet) order another job. The continuous pressure make the dirty police team to split and to betray each other with each step closer to the end of the mission and money.

The end of the movie is unexpected as a newbie cop in the neighbourhood succeed to turn around his fate and survive the Russian mafia.

You can see Triple 9 from 19th February at Sunderland Empire, ODEON Silverlink and Gateshead Metrocentre.
