Preview: COAL at Dance City

11th February 2016 Off By Gemma Hirst

Gary Clarke is marking the 30th anniversary of the end of the miners’ strike in his dance performance of COAL.

Pertinent to the North East’s own mining history, COAL will look back at what life was like for a miner and look into how it affected the working class communities.

Clarke bases his performances from personal research, from interviews with Anne Scargill, former wife of NUM president Arthur Scargill and spending time with Chris Skidmore of the National Union of Mineworkers.

With a cast of seven dancers, a community cast playing the miners wives and a live colliery brass band.

COAL is sure to bring back all those memories for the North East audience, especially those who remember working on the pit.

COAL is co-commissioned by Dance City.

COAL is on from April 29, 7.30pm and April 30, 2.30pm and 8pm.

Tickets are priced from £15.00 and can be bought from the ticket office on 0191 261 0505, or online here.
