Tonight Alive: Limitless World Tour

21st February 2016 Off By Adam Bloomfield

In the depths of Newcastle University’s Mens Bar, I bore witness to one of the greatest rock shows ever to grace the city. That’s right I’m talking about Tonight Alive!

So grab your backwards baseball caps, skinny jeans and Vans shoes.

The Austrailian five-piece pop punk band made a stop in Newcastle Upon Tyne for their Limitless world tour, and it is by far one of the best gigs I’ve ever been to.

The atmosphere was electric and the fans were pumped up to see Jenna McDougall and co. take to the stage. Opening up with some of their tracks from their second album The Other Side including The Fire, The Ocean and Hell And Back it leads the crowd on the band’s emotional journey from where they began to where they are now, which was amazing.

Things went a bit more mellow when Jenna and lead guitarist Whakaio Taahi performed stripped down versions of Closer, Breaking and Entering and one of my favourite songs The Other Side. The whole audience was kept spellbound by these acoustic numbers as they really played on an emotional level as the band talked about their past and their troubles.

Once the other members returned to the stage the crowd was then whipped into a pop punk storm with songs such as Wasting Away and Listening then came one of my favourite songs by the band, The Edge. This song was made even more fun by the fact a fan dressed as Spiderman jumped up on the stage and performed with the band.

Finally to wrap up the night, even though I personally didn’t want it to end, and neither did the crowd, we were treated to an encore performance of How Does It Feel? and another one of my favourites, which Jenna asked the question of: “Are there any lonely girls in the audience tonight?” which lead into a show stopping performance of Lonely Girl.

So a brilliant, electrifying performance from Tonight Alive who show that they aren’t just a Paramore carbon copy they’ve been compared to in the past, they’re in a league of their own and I’m looking forward to seeing them again someday.

Special shout out to Milk Teeth and Our Last Night who provided excellent support for Tonight Alive. Thank you
