Twitter Livestreaming vs Live Music: Will social media take over the North East music scene?
20th April 2017Twitter has teamed up with Livenation to stream live concerts, but will this have an impact on the North-East music scene?
With venues like the O2 Academy, Metro Radio Arena and Think Tank, Newcastle is renowned for live music and shows, hosting a variety of names from Ed Sheeran to Iron Maiden.
Twitter plans to create a new daily live show under the hashtag #WhatsHappening starting May 13, to build on entertainment culture across the platform.
Twitter says that it wants to be the first place for anyone to hear anything that matters to them.
Local music lover, Chantelle Coates, 20, from Newcastle, said: “As someone who attends gigs frequently in Newcastle, I feel like this is both good and bad for people who love live music as much as I do. Not everyone can afford to go to every gig they want to, so I guess that it’s good if you still want to see the show, but the memories you get from going to an actual show are unbeatable.”
